SEATTLE, WA. — June 12, 2023 — Astrolabe was recently awarded a third U.S. Air Force (USAF) Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) contract through the AFWERX Program. This is a Phase 1 contract to cover customer development activities and work towards advancing battery analytics that meet design assurance levels required for FAA and military airworthiness certification.
Astrolabe Analytics aims to rapidly expand its R&D capabilities and prepares for a Phase 2 contract with the USAF to drive innovation and readiness within the USAF’s battery programs.
“This contract with AFWERX is a great opportunity for Astrolabe to keep pace with the EVTOL industry and accelerate the decarbonization of aviation as a whole”, said Robert Masse, Co-founder and CEO of Astrolabe. “Making a battery fly is one of the most demanding things you could ask it to do. Our technology will help fill gaps in understanding battery safety in this environment, which will help our partners streamline certification and bring new airframe designs to market faster.”
Astrolabe will also collaborate with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and across other branches of the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) to develop best practices for evaluating battery performance in related transportation and defense applications.
